Most golfers carry their rangefinder like a second wallet — it comes out at every shot, gets stuffed back in the bag, and the size of the thing is never really thought about. Until you use the Bushnell A1-Slope for a round.
It's Bushnell's most compact laser rangefinder. Slope-adjusted distances, PinSeeker with JOLT confirmation, 6× magnification, 350+ yard flag range — the full technical package in a body small enough to sit in a shirt pocket. Rechargeable via USB-C with enough battery for roughly 40 rounds on a single charge. Bushnell also includes a BITE magnetic skin so it attaches directly to the cart bar between shots.
The orange colourway is intentional — it's hard to misplace on a cart or in a bag pocket, which matters more than most people admit until they've left a rangefinder on the 7th tee and only noticed on the 12th.
What Don says: "Half the time, golfers are reaching for their rangefinder in the middle of their pre-shot routine. They've stepped off the yardage marker, they're standing behind the ball, they've already committed to a club mentally — and then they double-check with the laser. The A1 does that job without breaking the rhythm. Small device, quick draw, right number. Get on with it."
Who this is for
Golfers who find full-size rangefinders bulky and want something that disappears into a pocket. Walkers who are counting grams in their bag. Anyone who's borrowed a rangefinder and found themselves wondering why they don't own one — the A1 at $440 is a real rangefinder, not a compromise. Golfers who play in competitive rounds and want slope functionality with a clean tournament-legal switch.
When NOT to buy this
The A1's flag range tops out at 350+ yards, which covers the vast majority of golf shots but is less than the 1,000+ yard range on the Pro X3+ or Tour V7 Shift — relevant if you frequently range trees, bunker fronts, or background objects. If the price gap doesn't concern you, the Tour V7 Shift at $550 adds an OLED display and longer range alongside slope for $110 more. The A1-Slope doesn't have wind or environmental adjustment — if those factors matter in how you approach club selection, step up to the Pro X3+.
